I love fashion. I love fashion week. I love Anna Wintour. I love vogue. I am just a girl. Fashion weeks are highly anticipated week in the year that showcase all the designers in one week. London, Paris, New York, Milan, are all extremely well known. Well, did you know there are fashion weeks in almost every city? I did not, (I know I know).
The three fashion weeks I found to be interesting were, Seoul fashion week, Milan fashion week, ( I had to talk about this I mean come on), and South African fashion week.
Seoul fashion week. Seoul fashion week is held by the Seoul metropolitan government and is held two times a year in March and October. They have granted themselves the title of being one of the most prominent fashion weeks alongside, New York, Paris, and Milan.
Seoul has become a trend setting city for years. This year they featured: Sleeves blazers. I mean no one walks to wear a hot long sleeved blazer work and sweat so by the time your in the office you are sweaty and smelly. They featured collar overthrows which means a loose collar and it is just an extra piece of clothing. (not my favorite). There were stuffed animals on the runway, aprons, buttons, ivy league college core, and even live performances from some K-pop icons. Anything can happen during fashion week.
Milan Fashion Week. Milan fashion week is out on by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana which is a non-profit organization. The fashion week happens once a year usually around September.
Milan has also seen to be a trend setter throughout the years. This year there were 6 designs that were seen on the runway. Designers like Prada, Gucci, Veneta, Davis created showstopping designs that we will probably see in the next couple months. Mossy green was the featured color which I could see become on the rise during the fall. There were fuzzy sweaters over satin dresses (not my favorite). There were sweaters hallway, Bra-cup dresses, which are cute and are seen everywhere right now so I wouldn’t be surprised if they kept getting more popular. The color butter yellow was featured which I personally think is going to be the color of the summer and lastly dresses is distress. Which they basically destroyed some of the dresses and put them on the runway.
South African fashion Week. South African fashion week is unique because their motto is the business of ethical fashion. Which is highly discussed in the fashion world but only few seek out too accomplish that kind of goal. This fashion week is once a year in April. Not many people know about the south African fashion week which makes it a diamond in the rough. It’s hosted in Jonesburg, South Africa. Rich reds were seen which is a pop of color we haven’ which we haven’t seen on the runway yet. Another thing that was seen on the runway were knit sweaters and crochet items which is cool to see because the other fashion weeks are solid and South African Fashion Week has lots of dimension to it. Accessories were seen like beachcut hats and chains. There were some cultural items as well such as, Ezokhetho head accessories and beads. There were all different coats filled with vibrant colors.
These fashion weeks are filled with so much dimension and really set the stage for the upcoming year in fashion. I favorite one that I talked about was the south African fashion week for sure. It just adds another level of dimension the others don’t.
